Health & Safety

Health & safety is of upmost importance to us here at Choice Equine Learning.  To ensure that we meet standards:

  • We hold public Liability Insurance and Professional Indemnity Insurance of £5 million.
  • Assess risks and health and safety aspects.
  • Up to date DBS check held.
  • Safeguarding awareness is of paramount importance

Our facilities

Choice Equine facilitated learning is set within 5 acres of land surrounded by hedgerows providing an undisturbed, tranquil space away from the busy demands of everyday life.  Located near an easy to find place opposite Farmer Palmers and next to the Axium Centre we are 4.5 miles from Poole town centre, 9 miles from Bournemouth town centre.

We have a variety of paddocks we work within, a classroom, toilet and parking space.

Before your arrival

To ensure you have the most enjoyable experience possible we ask for the following:

  • We ask that you arrive 10 minutes before your session is due to start. Due to preceding sessions and the horses requiring adequate rest between sessions we may not be able to accommodate extra time due to late arrivals.
  • Please wear comfortable closed toe, footwear or boots that will provide adequate protection for your feet.
  • Please bring adequate layers for outside work, a waterproof jacket, sun hat, suntan lotion dependent on season.
  • A note book for recording reflections if you wish.
  • No previous horse experience is provided and clients are not forced to interact beyond a place where they feel comfortable.  There is always space and opportunities for time out and reflections.
  • No eating or smoking is allowed, and we ask that you refrain from feeding the horses.

  • Please let us know in advance if you have any medical conditions or are taking any medication.

The care of our horses, physically and mentally is of upmost importance.  They live outside in a herd, barefoot, with access to shelter when they feel they need it. In fact most of the time they are happier to stand out in the rain rather than in a dry warm place! They are given plenty of love and affection and educated with natural horsemanship techniques.

Choice Equine Learning maintains a balance at all times between the well-being of the horses, safety of the whole group and the wellbeing of the participants, facilitators and assistants as a priority. Each workshop will start with a safety agreement.

Please note it is not possible to work with the horses if you have recently consumed high quantities of alcohol or other substances that render you incapable of staying in the present moment and participate in a safe manner.
